Hi everyone,

I've got an ad hoc connection for my two laptops both running vista (one is basic and the other is home premium), the problem is when sharing files, when i try accessing the computer through 'Network', i get the following error

\\{computer name} is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if yoou have access permissions.

Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.


any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Will,

Just passord-protect the user account again and to access the settings for Vista-shared folders, right click on the folder to share>Properties>Security Tab>Edit>Add>Advanced>Find Now....and in the serch results windows. Find Everyone and highlight it and confirm it. On back to the permisions for Everyone and set it to Full control (or the level you desire).

Then go into Sharing and make sure that Everyone is selected there as well and allow the level of permissions for sharing desired.

Another way to possibly find a computer on the network in Vista that isn't showing up is to go up to the address bar (should say Network) and right click on Network and choose Edit Address and then put in \\computer name\ and all the shared folders on that computer should appear in a dropdown.

okay guys, the problem seems to be when i have 'password protected sharing' on. is there anyway of solving this as i'd like password sharing on rather than off?
