On my win 2000 machine, I was using the hard drive from my win98 machine as an external hard drive/backup in a Mad Dog enclosure. When we bought our Vista Home Premium x64 machine, I backed up those files onto the new machine. But now, Vista doesn't recognize the drive. It does recognize thumb drives, mp3 players, etc. Is there a way to reformat the external hard drive and start over since my 'backups' from over the last 7 years are now on my Vista PC? Or should I start over with a new external hard drive? After two hard drive crashes on my 2000 pc, (Slim tower Dell Optiplex, basically a 'pizza oven' for hard drives) I know I need to keep backups of everything.
