Extending volume

Beginners question here (again) I have read the tutorial on how to delete a partition and extend the volume, and it seems pretty basic. I do have a question though. My C partition is 50GB, and I have a new volume E partition of 100Gb. I also have unallocated space left of 550Gb (750Gb seagate). I think I want to just want to have one big partition. Not sure if it's a good idea, but I was wondering if I need to go ahead and format the unallocated space first, or will I have an option to do it? I did right click on it, and I got an option to make it a simple volume or something similar, but thought I'd wait a bit on that. Any advice is always appreciated )

Hi Newfangle,

You do not want to make a Simple volume or format the unallocated partition unless you want to use it. When you Delete the partition in step 4 of the tutorial, it makes the partition unallocated anyway. This will merge the unallocated partitition with the E: partition. You will then have to repeat the tutorial to add the E: partition back to the main C: partition.

You can always shrink them again to make new partitions if you change your mind later.

Hope this helps,

Hi brink
My Acer laptop came with two equal partitions of 50GB and I was bit concerned that I may left with lot of space in D(Data) partition and C(system) partition being filled up by all "My Documents" stuff. I was not sure about moving files or folders to the data partition as the process is more technical. And I found your suggestion to another member and I gave it a try and it worked for me. Now I have a single partition of 100GB and I am quite happy.
Thank you for your clear explanation and I would like some one else those who are in my situation to benefit from this. Thanks again for your good work.
