explorer file icons

Hi guys,

on the edge of re-installing vista x64 here.

in windows explorer can you create a empty text file and rename the extensions as i have done in the screengrab? I just want to check if its a general vista thing or my icons are botched somehow. (if you can post a screengrab even better)

the first two are fine but PDF, RAR, NOTEPAD, etc have a tiny icon on a page icon. sucks.

Hi BleepingCrazy,

Sure, when you change the file extension on a file it will change the icon to match for the default program associated with that file extension type.

However, I doubt that those renamed TXT file extenstions would be able to open without a error since they are not truly those file extentions.

hi brink, but is your icons showing up the same as the last 3? (I know it depends on what the user has installed) but on nearly all of my icons its like that, small, white page with a smaller program icon. are your icons for these programs looking the same? (if you have any of them installed). (renaming the text file extensions was just a fast way of getting the filetype icons to change. not intending on opening them or anything...lol)

The PDF looks ok.

RAR is not ok. Since it looks like you have 7-Zip installed, look in the 7-Zip options and select the RAR file again for 7-Zip to be associated with it again.

REG is not ok either. You can use the reg download in the box at this link below to restore the default reg file association.
