Explorer.exe question

Lets see if I can explain this clearly.....

When I go to re-boot or shutdown.. I get a very fast screen flash that states that my explorer.exe is still running then it shuts down and restarts like normal.
I don't remember seeing it before the last few weeks... it is very fast and doesn't allow me the chance to do anything but notice it...

Any thoughts as to what would be causing this or what I could perhaps do to keep it from hanging? It doesn't seem to be an issue persay.. but I suspect it should not be happening... Thanks..

Is it a black screen, sorta translucent, with a bunch of white writing, and possibly a red cancel button at the bottom?

Believe that is it yes... I have to lean close to get a quick look just to see it.. there is a cancel button there... I take it you have seen it as well........

That is simply a warning screen that some process has not terminated yet, and the system is warning you that the process is still running- the fact that it goes away so quickly implies that the process is actually ending correctly on its own, just taking a wee bit longer than the system likes it to.

There should be nothing to worry about this at all.

Glad I could have helped - and I only noticed this after SP1 in the last several installs I have had it and thought it was an SP1 only feature - but I just saw this 2 days after my fresh Vista x64 (no SP yet) install and I now realize this is Vista specific screen.

Ok... I was going to say I didn't notice it til recently.. though I think prior to the sp1 as well.. it doesn't appear to cause issues for me either but wanted to double check.. Thanks again...
