Explorer Can't see dvd/cd's...

Explorer Can't see dvd/cd's...but dos and other programs that don't rely on explorer can. Example. I reboot the computer with a dvd in (say a movie), eject the movie via windows (windows still says its in the drive). Insert a blank CD-R, Windows still thinks its a dvd. Dos reads it as a blank disk, and i can burn to it via nero.

Suggestions, because honestly that is just annoying. And i'm sure i will eventually need files off a cd/dvd via explorer.

Replace your DVD. They are not that expensive anymore.

it is less than 6 months old, I don't see why that would go bad that quickly. It is a HP DVD writer.

Any slightly more usefull suggestions?

Turn off. Unplug the drive. Turn on. Remove it from device manager. Shut down restart to verify its gone. Shutdown. Plug it in. Let Vista reinstall it. Check for firmware upgrades to it.
