This morning Windows Update informed me of an update for the nVidia GeForce Go 6150 Display. However, when I tried to get more information on it, I was sent to
Winqual Help

Unfortunately, to get to any link inside Winqual Help one need a digital certificate, which is available for $49.

It seems an inappropriate for MS to place explanations in an area that cannot be accessed by all valid owners of a Windows OS. Such explanations should be moved back to the traditional http://support.microsoft.com/kb/xxxxxx pages where they can be accessed by all.

The address cannot be a result of a virus. If you look at Windows Update history and double click on an update, a window pops up with the reference link that explains what that update was for. That window explained what the nVidia was for and gave the link I presented, winqual.microsoft.com/support/?driverid=20337061 , which is a webpage on Microsoft's website.

What made you think a virus could have writen in the explanation and the link?

Actually, I was thinking more of malware than a virus; my reasoning was founded on the fact that many forms of malware do just that, present a popup that allows you to buy something. I am far from sure that the situation that you experience is from malware, but I am uneasy with the money request, after being sent to the Winqual site. I felt that precaution could not hurt.

Mate! :rolleyes:

Why all the huff and puff? All you needed to do was Google www.nVidia drivers downloads, and in a matter of moments your wails and gnashing of teeth can cease!

I plugged in you system details, and fizzzzzzzzzzizplunk! Found this;

...........soooo easy! Do you always shop at the same Computer store? Same applies where drivers etc. are concerned....there's always an alternative route.

Check out your current nVidia properties to compare against what is being offered, create a Restore point, look in Tutorials if you need to for guidance on updating drivers, and just go for it. And stop thumping MS....this is free, repeat free!!
