Dxdiag won't recognize Video Card

Hi there, I am having the same problem as this person: http://www.vistax64.com/graphic-cards/294758-dxdiag-doesnt-recognize-graphics-card.html

I have updated my video drivers several times and updated the BIOS as someone in the thread has suggested. The problem is still persisting for me :(

Also, the video card has randomly worked twice since this problem started.

-The first time I tried updating the video drivers it was working but stopped once i restarted the computer again. I tried re-installing the video drivers many times but it never worked after that until today.

-Just today i set up my computer after having moved and it was working. When i left the computer the screen could not be "woken up" so i had to hold the power button to shut down. Since then it hasn't been working at all.

Here are some screenshots:

Side note - I have been tempted to buy a new video card as mine is pretty outdated anyhow. If i got a new card would this problem go away?

Not to sure yet what the problem is, so unsure if a new card will fix the issue.

Since you physically moved it, i'd open up the case and ensure the cards still seated properly, and the power cable is secure.

Does the screen work properly? i.e. no distortin or color issues?

No screen issues that you mentioned. I just opened the case to check the card and everything is secure.

It could well e then your card is on its last leg.

When you redid your drivers, did you use drivesweeper to remove all the old files?

It seems that page may be out of date. Attention - Guru3D Driver Sweeper has been discontinued as such you will not find any download links here any longer.

When i click on the download link it directs me to the bottom of the page which states:
Note: If you have problems downloading Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup), please try to stop using your download manager and avoid right clicking on files. Also, check your firewall settings, because some mirrors may require that you do not block the HTTP referrers.

I tried turning my firewall off, but wasn't sure what was meant by the part that says "stop using your download manager and avoid right clicking files"

There are a bunch of other "driver sweeper" programs on google search, but I'm not sure i want to just pick a random one and download it.

Anyhow, tomorrow I am going to buy a new video card from Best Buy, plug it in and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the help, and I will let you know how it goes.

Srr bout that.
Driver Sweeper 2.9.0 - CNET Download.com

You should still use the sweeper before you put in the neew card. Your 8800 is 3 gens old now, as such there may be conflicts with the newer card.

So ive uninstalled drivers, run driver sweeper and installed Dell's drivers. Dxdiag showed my card working, but within 10 seconds of starting a game the computer froze. Restarted the comp to see dxdiag doesn't recognize again. Restarted again and it worked then froze. Back to square one.

The only thing i can think of looking into before trying another card is the error 43 issue. Any thoughts on that?
