DVD/DATA Burner,options?

Hey,
I wanted to create a data cd with some files/programs on it that i got off the net and it wont let me.
Is there any good free software to allow me to do this?

It would help if you could give us a bit more information.
What files and programs are you trying to put to disk, and what is the error you are getting ?.

Imgburn will do it. If you have hundreds of files in lots of directories, use Build Mode and create an image file(.iso) first. Then burn that to disk. When I save my source code to disc I have hundreds of small files in a whole bunch of directories and I notice sometimes if I try to burn on the fly, the buffer will empty out and I'll get a coaster. Making an image file first, then burning never fails. If you only have a few files and folders then it shouldn't matter.

Also you can try CDBurnerXP(even though it's named XP it works in Vista.) Both it and Imageburn are free.

I tried CDBurnerXP that thing took so long to burn just a simple CD I nearly fell asleep

Maybe it didn't like your hardware. Just in case though, I would check that you have DMA enabled on your optical drive(s). There should be a tutorial on this forum if you need step by step.

I run into this over and over. One person says x software is great, the other says it sucks. Usually the one who hates it has some hardware that it wasn't tested on or the fix hasn't been coded. There are way too many combinations to test. Everything would be obsolete if they waited to test all possible combinations(plus they don't want to spend the money so rely somewhat on customer feedback.)
