Dvd burning - help needed!!

Hi,

I am trying to burn a movie to DVD, it's split into two parts both .avi files. The only burning software I seem to have is windows dvd maker. SO far so good. Most films so far have worked fine, however a problem seems to occur when trying to burn the movies that are in two parts.

I get an error message that is as follows:

"CANNOT CREATE THE DVD>

One or more of the files that were added in DVD maker could not be decoded correctly. Verify that you have the decoding software installed on your computer that can decode the different files, and then try again"

From here, I don't know what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.

Let me get this straight first,
you want to burn those 2 .avi files onto ONE disk as ONE movie? or as TWO movies?

I assume you want the DVD to be able to play on regular dvd players right?

This is what happens when you try to burn a video file to a 'dvd player compatible' DVD disk:

DVD movies use certain codecs (MPEG I believe) so unless your .avi is already in the same codec as a dvd movie it will have to be recoded.
This basically means decoding the video into a 'raw' video stream and then re-encoding it in the desired format.

Depending on the encoding used in your .avi file different decoding codecs might be needed to perform that task. If you are unwilling to get dvd burning software that has the required codecs for this (NERO burning rom would probably suit your needs)
you can also try to download a video-recoding program that allows you to recode the .avi file first into the desired format so your burning software won't have to.

I'm not sure if there are any freeware programs for that task out there or what program would be best to use as I personally haven't used any for a while now so you'll have to look around.

I highly suggest just going for NERO burning rom though because it is probably the easiest quickest solution.

Good luck!

Hi sniper,

You could try the free Dvdflick. Handles a lot of formats - can't guarantee it will work with yours, but it's worth a go:

DVD Flick

Hope it helps
