Duplicate files...and partitions

Through MBAM "other tools", I was able to remove several duplicate files with collective total size of nearly 300 MB. They are still in Recycle Bin(in case I need to restore some) but already there is perceptible speed gain. Does that mean duplicate files can slow down the system?

I also found out HD has 4 partitions:0, 1, 2 and 3. Only partition 0 that starts at LBA 63 is active and bootable. The rest are inactive, start at LBA 0..and what? Are these inactive partitions useless? Are they deletable?

The problem with removing duplicate files is that, in many cases, there are copies of system files in various folders for good reason. I would be careful with doing that. In general, running the Windows Disk Cleanup utility from Windows Accessories, System Tools to clean up temporary files and empty the recyle bin is sufficient to provide a performance gain. One should reboot after running the utility. In addition, speed gains can be accomplished by setting a schedule for hard drive defragmenting using the Windows defrag utility. Obviously, you want to schedule the defrag while the system is running. You shouldn't notice it if you're doing other things.

What are you using that's telling you that there are inactive partitions? One of the partitions may be a recovery partition which is used to repair Windows problems in conjuction with the installation disc. There shouldn't be any other partitions unless you or the drive vendor or your computer vendor created them. What does it show in Control Panel, Administrator Tools, Computer Management?

MBAM has "More Tools" that include Anti-rootkit scan. Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Rootkit

Anti-rootkit scans HD's partitions. Mine has 4 (0, 1, 2, and 3).

I have no recovery partition(I had it removed as it occupied too much space).

Sorry, I have difficulty taking screenshots.

Can't you use the Windows snipping tool?

A recovery partition normally only uses a few Gb.

The partitions description takes a whole page which I have no idea how to snip(I can snip only little portion of a page). I think screenshot is better but I always struggle with it...and posting it on Forum is another headache. Sorry.

BTW, so far so good. I have not encountered any malfunctioning since I deleted duplicate files. I know I've gained some speed.

Although my PC is 5 yr old, this current factory image re-installation from recovery discs is only a few months old. How did files get duplicated? How did I have so many? Is that normal? Everybody has so many duplicate files?

I should have asked you to click on Storage, Disk Management after selecting computer management.

You should see something like the attached. That's what we want to see.diskmanagement.JPG

I have no idea what MBAM is referring to but, from your screen shot, Windows is not recognizing any additional partitions, active or otherwise. As a result, there's nothing to delete. It might be some anomaly in the master boot record or in the UEFI/GPT, if you have that type of system.

Is it possible there are default extra partitions that system just does not show maybe because they are not active?

I don't know what active means. As far as I know, if there's a partition, Windows will recognize it. If it doesn't, the MBR may be corrupt.
