Dual screen second monitor sometimes doesn’t come on after S3 wake.

I think after this update:
Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB968389)

…my dual monitor video card:
PNY VCG86GTS5XWB-OC GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

…sometimes does not bring the second monitor on after waking from S3 sleep.

It’s still in dual screen mode as I can see a taskbar window fly to the second monitor. But I have to sleep and wake again to get it to come back on.

Anyone else experience something like this? I don’t remember it ever happening before and was wondering if it could be the patch.

I personally dont have any problems with it, but my pc also doesn't have sleep mode enabled, it shuts off the monitor after 20 mins but everything else stays power'd up. Try disabling sleep mode and see if its waking it up from power off monitor correctly.

I have that in addition to S3 sleep mode. It only has that probelm comming out of sleep mode. It doesn't always occur. Just sometimes. It never happened a few weeks ago.

Well, I found the problem. The Windows Update was just a cooincidence and didn't seem to have anything to do with it.

My monitor now wouldn't even come on at all.
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 700:1(DC 3000:1) - LCD Monitors

I switched the cables but it didn't show anything on the bad monitor.
I was able to get display 2 on the good monitor while the bad monitor showed nothing.
It still makes the "new device sound" when I attach the bad monitor...but it doesn't show anything.
I replugged power and it still didn't do anything.

One interesting thing to note was that the good monitor's LED on standby blinks at about 2x the rate as the bad monitor. I'm sure they used to blink the same. Is this like a "service indicator" or something, perhaps?

Any ideas? Should I kick it? I'm not sure these LCD's can take what CRT's can when the screen goes out! LOL!

Man, this sucks. It's such a pain just using one monitor after having used 2 for a while. :(

Conclusion:

FYI, I sent it in to Samsung. Pretty fast service.

The symtom was called "Dark Video".

It looks like they changed the "Condenser" (BN81-02021A).

I know this thread i sold but I was searching for a part off my Samsung repair list and this thread came up on a forum I am a member of!

I had the same issue with this so called "dark video" for 3 months...yes it took me that long to finally grow a brain and suspect it WASN"T Nvidia's latest driver set which incidently is when the issue started for me. I was getting up to 5 minute black screens upon cold boot and resuming from sleep...basically any time the monitor had been off for a while. It was almost like it had to warm up.

I am posting here mainly to describe my experience with Samsung's warranty repair and I was lucky this happened 6 montsh before my 3 years expired. The got it back to fairly quickly give the fact I sent it back 2 days before Christmas and had it back on January 6th so they made good time with all the holiday off time. They replaced 2 capacitors and a condensor according to FES Corp's repair ticket. Sounds good do far.....

Well upon plugging it back up I immediately got a crappy grainy looking boot up sequence screen...this used to be a pitch black with the text. There were lines and distorion everywhere...then the Win7 loading icon looked like something an Atari 2600 would produce...I am talking 8 bit graphics quality here folks. Did I mention there was no problem with the image quality just the long wait till it came on? When I got into windows the display quality was grainy and horrible looking. I reached up to move the monitor back away from my keyboard and the screen went black for a second along with random lines being produced. It was like it has a short or a bad connection but once you quit touching it it would go back to the way it was. I was pissed...send it away to get one problem fixed and it comes back way worse than when I sent it out. I am using it right now but I will not leave it powered on if I am not using the PC because I do not trust it.

I called Samsung and they have sent me another "replacement" out which I will pick up at my local UPS store when it arrives in 5 days or so. They called it a MBE Exchange so I do not know if it is a new one, used, or refurbished. As far as I know they don't even make this model anymore so I guess I will see what I get next week. Maybe it got damaged in the return shipping or FES Corp didn't bother to test it after repairing it because they would have seen this load of crap. The lower clear piece at the bottom that the controls are behind is also loose now so I am glad they are sending me something else because this repair job was laughable.
