Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal

I have been pretty much stuck in a BSOD of death loop for nearly a week now with short moments of the computer working in safe mode. In those time where the computer decided to work I updated drivers to most everything, I tried to update the video card but with a few percent into the install it would blue screen. I also tried the KB929777 patch but it said something along the lines of "does not apply to my system". Long story short I ended up trying to install Service Pack 2, after a couple blue screens I got to step 3 where it will not get past 74% but more often than not blue screens before 70%. I am now stuck in a even worse position than before, can I cancel the update? I am using OEM Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? Bought spring of 09, so it is a 2008.
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) This is the original install.

Some additional information. The last time it came up with the DRIVE_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error under technical information the stop code was 0x000000D1 then below that is said storport.sys. I was unable to get the rest because it restarted. I turned off restart after crash and then it gave me a different code (0x000000C5) and nothing about storport.

Hello,

I suggest a system restore first, to revert the changes done by the service pack installation.

System Restore - Windows 7 Forums

However, I suspect that will fail. I believe storport.sysis a hard drive controller driver, and it sounds like a hardware problem.

Try testing your hard drive with the DOS version of SeaTools.
