driver is not compatible?

hello every one.


iv had a really out of the blue error, every time i boot i get

" At least one display adapter on the system has been disabled because its driver is not compatible with the driver for the VGA adapter. "

My system has been runing fine on that driver for months, i was lisening to my music, while playing a game then the screen turned off, and my pc crashed ( i know it crashed by the muic that was plying.

after a restart my pc was in 4 bit colour in a really low rez, i then desided to uninstall the driver, which did nouthing, so i pulled out the card, and tryed onborad, that worked fine with no driver, (never installed a driver for on borad).


The card that fails is a gforce 8500 GT pci-e
on borad i think is a 7600

othere system specs are

Cpu: althlon dual core 3.1 ghz
Ram: 6gb 800 mhz
mobo: Abit AN-M2HD
OS: vista ultimate 64bit


i have alos got to error repots form the event viewer, these are the 2 on when it crashed.

Any help of this will be great, and a big thanks in advarnce

Did you try reseating the card?
Could this have been a heat-related failure?

i have tryed to reseat i many times, even after a big cool down, and still the same, as for over heating, my pc is well vented also has

3 back fans
18 cm front fan
25 cm side can

over heating is not the case of couse theres a fan on it, if u couted all the fan arrond my pc, i have 8 fans.


it is weird, it just randomly struck

Can you try installing a new driver for that card? Nvidia are here:

You could get a new card as that 8500 is old. A 9600GT would be enough or a GTS 250 for something stronger.

its safe to say its dead, which i did not want to happen, now i need to buy a new Power supply, 2 9800 gt's and a new mobo, an upgrade tht i wanted to do bit by bit, but now the 8500 is dead, ile have to get all at once, bu the plan was to get a mobo that can house two cpu's, buying all this in 1 lump will be too dear =(.


But why did it blow? i mean i did not OC it, it was well vented & cooled?

It is not necessary to get 2 new cpu's or run sli. If you play at 1920x1080/1200 then a single GTX 295 with a Core i7 920 is enough. That would justify the cost of the motherboard.

As to the card, sometimes the video processor fails. Maybe it was a dud factory card.

Try booting in safe mode, this will disable the driver on boot up.
If it will boot into safe mode then go to device manager and delete the graphics card form the list.
When you reboot the pc should install the driver for your card.
Try your card in a friends machine.
Have you tried booting into the bios with your graphics card installed on the machine? If this works then it is not a hardware error.

from newegg with a 285 instead of 9800 & 295 and previously harvesting old dvd drive my whole rig monitor and all was just over $1600. Prices have gone down tho so u could upgrade or save some cash. Newegg gives 12 months no interest on a purchase that large with their preferred account.
