driver for sony hd hanycam

hello all,
my new pc with vista 64 does not recognise my sony hdrsr1 handycam, and it does not have a firewire connection point.
are ther any drivers ,or can any one help me as to how i can get the images into an editing program.
i cant believe my new pc cant do this simple function...please help,

Have you checked Sony's website to make sure that your cam is Vista compatible?

You camera has a USB output port right?
If so, just connect your camera to the computer via USB and Vista should already be able to see the camera as a mass storage device. Just copy over the folders by drag and drop.
I don't know for sure because I use a Sony HDR-SR8E which is an AVCHD HDTV camera with hard disk storage, this works for me but maybe not for you.

I have the same problem and have been in contact with Sony. They told me that there is no solution. (I would have been in contact with MS if they weren't going to charge me $59 for pointing out how lame their latest operating system is.)

While Sony has drivers that work for it's most recent cameras - cameras that it is currently selling to make more money. Older cameras, those purchased even within the last 12 months are not supported.
