drag and drop icons

Why can't I drag an icon from the notification area to my desktop or taskbar? I found some help on how to create a shortcut by right clicking screen and selecting new and so on, then type in some code and then change icon picture if I wanted to. That a long an drawn out process. I can drag and drop anything else but nothing from the notification area. Odd.....

Hi Bassfisher,

This is normal for the Notification System Tray icons. The only way to have a shortcut of these is to copy them from the Start menu shortcut of the program it is for, or create one for from the program exe file. Afterwards, you can place the new shortcut where you like.

Thanks, I'll do that if I could find it in the start menu. I'm looking for the safely remove hardware icon in particular. Where can I find that one? I used the search index and it came up empty. I'm baffled.

You can create a new shortcut using RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll in the location line.

I will have to create a tutorial on this one. Thanks for reminding me.
