downstream rates

hi everyone,


i am just wondering if any one know anything about downstream rates?

i am having issues with the internet recently and i checked my downstream rate in the router and it gives me the usual bandwith size , however when i do a download speed test from the internet its telling me a third of the rate. so i am getting stuff all download rates . my download stream rate on the router is 3584kb/s where as a speed test tells me its 0.24mb/s.
anyone have any idea why?

Are u sure u are not capped and how far are u trying to ping on speed test?

reset your router, (take the power out the back of it leave it out for 1 minute, plug it back in) (pressing the reset switch is not recommended as this resets alot of functions) if that doesnt work, hit the reset switch. download something from the microsoft website, anything just to see what speed comes up and cancel (microsoft will always have the fastest/most secure connection in the world) check what your speed is, come back and let us know the outcome.
(could also be your ISP server in your area is under alot of strain and people are downloading alot atm or that too many people are on the server at the moment)
If the problem persists, within the day- assuming you have a dynamic IP- the connection should change somewhat and reallocate you to another server if you cant wait, ring your ISP and tell them to reset your connection, then come back and tell us if this helped you out.
Also if that doesnt work go to command prompt start>all programs> accessories >right click command prompt, run as administrator, press enter for UAC type in cd\
then type ipconfig flushdns

i have done most of what you suggested already in the past when ive had issues with the internet. It just seems strange that the router tells me a different rates. In the past when the line went down the stream rate in the router would also show that the line was "broken". I have had a problem with a line splitter once and when you pick up the telephone you could hear all of the noise which caused the internet to fluctuate and so the rates changed in the router.
what i was really worried about was the difference between the router and the computer because the line is fine up TO the router. If someone was useing my bandwith could i find out? like someone hacking into my system?

all these problems started arfter a power outage would that have caused anything?
