Is it possible to download home premium so that I can keep a copy of the OS secured? I have the OEM version already running in my laptop. but no extra CD. 
Download Vista- have an OEM licence in my HP lappie..

did you buy laptop with it installed? if so there may be a hidden drive with your recover disk on it.

If you mean a H. P. laptop?
Go to start menu> all programs see if you have
P.C. Help and Tools. Click on Recovery Disc Creation. Follow the
instructions. You only get to make one set, so make it a good one.
There should also be a Recovery Partition D: to use at boot up.
Don't do anything to that, as you may need it
sometime in the future!

I have a hp desktop and didn't have a installation or recovery cd and trying make one as you mention wouldn't work so I call hp and they sent me one no charge

It worked for me without a hitch but if I
had known it would take two hours I would
have chosen the DVD option. Live and learn!
