Why would anyone downgrade from Business to Home Premium?

Strictly speaking, moving from Business to Home Premium (or vice-versa) cannot be called an upgrade or a downgrade. These editions of Vista are targeted at different users and therefore both have features and programs not available in the other. However, both these editions can be upgraded to Ultimate without loss of functionality.

Let me elaborate: Because Home Premium does not support Fax, I visited Microsoft Market in serious consideration of upgrading to Business. But it is NOT offerered. Only to Ultimate. However, downgrading to Home Premium from Business is. (???)

You are in essence saying some Home Premium feature/s may be lost upgrading to Business? But not to Ultimate?

Yes and no. Some Home Premium programs and features are not available in Business (and vice-versa). All features are, however, included in the Ultimate version. Have a look at the following link: Windows Vista Edition Comparison

Glad to have been able to help. How many people have you actually given Rep to? I know, from my User CP, that you have previously given me Rep so it has, in the past, worked. No, seriously, how can I have 5 others before you or Shawn or one more (See? I forgot his name already...he has helped me more than twice without getting a rep) since you are just about the only ones who are always able to help me.

I'm stumped with this rule. Another thing, if/when out of penalty box, how can I get back to you and others for your well deserved reps?

I would not use any home version over business. You lose functionality.

Hi Michael,

I see the differences in feature/s availability between Premium and Business.(thanks, Dwarf) I also can understand now why "downgrading" (wrong word, actually) may be an option..depending on users use of PC. I can see why I would not upgrade to Business (even if feasible).

For me, it's either Ultimate (which is really an overkill) or suck it up with Premium(no fax) or get a fax machine. But definitely, no Business.

PS...speaking of fax, I think anything labeled "Premium" should easily support Fax. Microsoft is risking alienating users to take a serious look at Mac. I think Microsoft should change marketing views and supply update for Fax software in Premium. Fax is not even mentioned in the chart of Vista versions features. How many Premium buyers discover too late they have no Fax ?
