Does a home theater to a PC use a lot of electricity?

Do you have to leave this on all the time for it to record? Or can you just time it to turn on and turn off itself. I suppose this would use S3 sleep mode so that it could turn on really quick without having to boot all the time.

A DVR would be a better solution. I added a $300 750GB eSATA drive on my DVR. I can record 100 hours of HD TV. I connected a Sony VCR/DVD dubber to it. I can record to DVD in VCR format. I know which channels I can't due to protected DRM. TCM and Showtime allow me to record 99% of shows to DVD.
