Display Issues

I am using a Sony VAIO VGN-AR51J laptop with an NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT driver and suddenly this driver has started, without explanation, having issues with Aero. The screen has started to display wavy lines and the option to select Aero is no longer available in the display options. Sometimes after a while the problem rectifies itself, but then it goes back to being weird. I have searched all over the Internet to no avail. I have had the laptop for nearly 5 years now with no issues and can't work out why it is suddenly having this fault. Any help or suggestions would be extremely helpful. Thanks.

Try doing a system restore ( follow this tutorial http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76332-system-restore-point-create.html) to a date when your system was working properly.

I think what he wants you to do is go to Start\run and run SFC /scannow. it will report if it fixed any errors with system files.

I suggest running memtest since the absence of the aero selection may indicate a memory problem. How much RAM do you have?

It could also be that you have too many services\programs running in the background and they're consuming resources, including memory. You could run msconfig.exe and look at what is running in the Startup tab and disable things you don't need running in the background.

How much free hard drive space do you have? Have you run the Windows Disk Cleanup utility lately and rebooted?
