Disappearing emails

Among the many difficulties I have experienced with Vista, a new affliction has recently occurred.

I use Windows Mail, Vista's version of Outlook Express. When I open emails, and minimise Windows Mail or exit altogether, on my return all the opened emails have gone. They are not in the Deleted folder. They have just vanished.

This has started happening only in the past couple of months. Any ideas? Solutions?

Honestly, my idea/solution is Gmail. Is there any reason to use an extra program for something that relies on the internet anyway? Browser-based emails are far more convenient and easy to use than any mail-specific program.

You may have an option set to hide read messages.
On your main WM tool bar
View > Current View > Hide read messages
Change it to Show all

OR

View menu>current view, select top and bottom options only.

How about other "Hide" selections (Read messages, Read or Ignored messages, and Answered messages), are they all UNchecked? If any of these have checkmarks, you will be hiding messages from view.
