DirectX/Vista RAM recognition

I have 4GB of RAM and recognized by Vista but DirectX shows only 3070MB
little bit confused

also is your video onboard or a seperate card?

if it is onboard that is were some of your memory is going!

I have a Radeon HD 3870 512MB and DirectX shows 1787MB of memory...
Can I change that? RAM is more important than graphic memory.

yes but you have to do it in the bios.

shared graphics memory, shared memory, not sure as every bios is different, but yeah something like that.

I would not worry about that. You are not talking about memory anyhow, you are looking at address space. The real RAM will be managed and used by Vista as is optimal for each instant. Don't try to outsmart the system. It will work against you - guaranteed.

but I would have it better with 4GB RAM only, not shared with something I don't want
