Desperatly Need Help With Dual Desktop Monitor

Was given a "new" computer from a friend. A discription of my problem is as follows with hardware discriptions to follow after that.

I currently have two monitors. The back of this computer has 2 video ports. 1 of which is DVI-I (4 pins next to the long pin) and 1 DVI-D (Does not have 4 pins). I currently have 1 17" VGA ONLY Monitor, and one 19" DVI-I, VGA, S-Video. I have 1 VGA cord, 1 DVI-D cord, and one DVI-I to VGA Adapter.
Both Monitors work in the DVI-I slot. Obviously I can only connect the VGA to the DVI-I slot. I have been on intels support site for hours checking drivers, updating bios, etc. Can provide screen shots of anything needed to help with this.
When I right click and go to "Personalize" I can click on the "greyed out" Monitor 2, click extend desktop, when I click apply the "working" screen flickers, asks do I want to keep these setting, yet nothing has changed. Once I click yes it returns to display settings and monitor 2 is greyed out again.
Under "Device Manager" under Display Adapters it says "Intel(R) Q45/Q43 Express Chipset", and under Monitors it states "Generic PnP Monitor".
I have tried absolutly everything I can think of and am very desperate to get this resolved hopefully someone can help......

I am running Directx10
I have screen shots of both monitors. To get that I just have to unplug one from the DVI-I and Plug the other in.

If anyother information of Screen Shots are needed PLEASE ASK :cry: Thank you

by the looks of this image, you dont have the drivers for at least one of the monitors hence the...''Generic pnp monitor''

try updating the screen drivers via the device manager tabs.... see if that helps. ;)

Ya i have been to the Hanns.G website and they state that their monitor complies with PnP standards and that there is no drivers required. I also tried searching for the eMachines and no luck. Thank you though. Anyone else have an idea?

get a different dvi> dsub adapter and try, maybe the problem is with the adapter - or even update the graphics card drivers and firmware, this might help alot

Thanks d3aths3rver, I have got from what I believe to be the latest and to date drivers from intel. Also the DVI-D slot (with the DVI-D cord to the DVI-D monitor) is the one I cannot get the computer to recognize. The DVI-I slot has an adapter for the 17" VGA monitor which works fine.

could you please take a picture of the back of your pc, Im not too sure if your intel motherboard has 2 outputs, if it does im sorry, but I think its a graphics card that might have these outputs, if this is the case then you need the drivers and the firmware for this

I will get a pic as soon as I can, but coming off the mother board (not a seperate card) is a DVI-I and a DVI-D Connectors

The flickering on the first monitor sounds a if the signal is being split or the refresh rate is wrong.

What is the refresh rate of your monitors?

From the tech manual;

1.6.1.4 Digital Visual Interface (DVI)
The DVI-I port supports both digital and analog DVI displays. The maximum
supported resolution is 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz refresh (QXGA). The DVI port is
compliant with the DVI 1.0 specification.

The DVI-D port supports only digital DVI displays. The maximum supported resolution
is 2048 x 1536 at 75 Hz refresh (QXGA). The DVI-D port is compliant with the DVI
1.0 specification.

Try the latest drivers here;

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Intel%c2%ae+4+Series+Chipset+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%c2%ae+Desktop+Board+DQ45CB

I know you have got an add on card but it would be good to find out why it would not work.
I would always advise not using onboard graphics because you have less memory and an add on card will give you a big performance increase.
