Hi, new to all this. Can anyone tell me in the simplest terms how to fix this problem. When I log on this message keeps coming up -

C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop is not accessible. Access is denied

Also screen is completely black. Is this a serious problem?

Hope someone out there can help!!!

Something is corrupted, or permissions are out of whack.

Do you at least get the start menu/task bar? Or nothing at all?

There are ways to get it back, probably the easiest to try first is to run the installer CD and do a repair install.

Alternatively you could logon in safe mode into the system administrator account, create a new account. If you don't log in using safe mode you'll still have permission problems.

Then log into that new account out of safe mode, and copy all the stuff over.

Come to think of it, if the problem is permissions you might even be able to log into safe mode to an administrator account, and simply change permissions.
