When I place my mouse on a desktop icon it scrolls up and down over all the icons above the one that I have the mouse on as if I am moving the mouse over them. It does the same thing when I am in the start menu, etc. Anyone know what causes this? I ran Spyware and virus scans with AVG and deleted a bunch of tracking cookies and it is still doing it. I really do not understand what is going on. I changed the mouse as well and it has not changed it. It does not so it constantly. If anyone can help please do! Thanks

What are you using as a mouse pad? Use something plain in colour (ie. a single colour, not a patterned mouse pad) and see if this helps

I am using a Grey mouse pad. I also went to a roller ball mouse and it is still doing the same thing.

USB mice or PS/2? Assuming USB, might be worth switching to another USB slot, see if the same thing happens
You could also try deleting / uninstalling the mouse from Device Manager, detaching it from your computer, reboot, and let Vista install it again

Thanks for the welcome and no I have not do that yet. I am going to try that when I get back to it. If that does not work what do you think that it might be? I am using a regular mouse on it now.

Does the picture / screen distort any at all while this is occurring? I am wondering if it is in fact a symptom of a failing video card or misconfigured video driver / parameters....

No, not that I have seen, it looks like the mouse is bouncing all over but the mouse is not moving.

It looks like the mouse is bouncing all over the place but the mouse is not moving - I really think this is a Windows problem that won't exist on another profile - specifically, I think your current profile is somehow hosed so that when the Desktop tries to display balloon tool tips it goes haywire. I suppose you could disable balloon tool tips and see if that helps....but that is still indicative of something larger being bad....

I made another account, deleted the other one and it is still doing the same thing. I also deleted the mouse hardware, restarted and it was the same after that as well.

I think that I found the problem, after changing a few settings and looking at a few things I realized that my key board scroll lock was acting up. I changed the key board and restarted it a few times and it is working fine! Thanks for all the help Bro!
