DEP shutting down some programs

I've had this issue for about three weeks now, and DEP has been shutting down some programs (IE, AVG, etc.). After working with a tech support guy in another forum, it was determined that this issue was NOT related to malware/viral infection. I have tried options all over the internet (from enable/disable within the Advanced Security section in System to changing the BIOS to AlwaysOn and OptIn), but nothing has worked. I have managed, for unknown reasons, to get IE and the AVG Interface to work, but some secondary programs are still being shutdown. And now, the options within the Advanced Secuirty section under DEP are greyed out (I have already tried to run the command to AlwaysOn and OptIn, but it doesn't work). I'm afraid that this will issue will begin to affect other critical systems that would prevent me from doing anything on the computer. I need help to get past this. Thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us more about your computer, like desktop or laptop, manufacture, model number, 32 bit or 64 bit, security, and do you remember what you were doing the first time you noticed this. Besides working with a tech else where what have you done to try and repair. Thanks

Run a full anti virus scan
Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes. If YOU ARE CERTAIN that there is no malware, you can try to disable DEP and see if the computer performs better

Try to turn off in Safe Mode
If you are able to shut it down, report back and perhaps we can find the true cause.
You can also try a system restore from 3 days before the problem began. Be sure you have no virus before trying this.

Have you looked in the event viewer to see what kind of errors you are getting, have you tried to run a sfc scan.

1. Click Start...
2. In the search box type: CMD...And hit enter...
3. When the popup list comes up scroll up and RIGHT click run as administrator...
4. When the command box appears the type sfc /scannow, notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash. If the sfc shows any errors then run it 3 more times as it repairs more each time, here is a great tutorial.

Sorry for the lateness on getting back on this.

My laptop is an HP G60, running Windows Vista 32-bit OS. The security systems that I have are AVG, Malwarebytes, and Spybot.

I was doing research for my class online and one of the sites that I went into sparked a Trojan warning that AVG immediately detected. This file was deleted and removed form my computer immediately. When I closed the internet explorer, there wasn't any issue. However, when I reopened it, it immediately shutdown and a pop came up saying that the DEP had blocked the program. I tried running a virus scan with AVG, but the interface for that was also being blocked.

I started researching on the internet (Modzilla was working) for answers. I tried and wasn't successful on disabling the DEP through Advanced Systems; using the CMD function to AlwaysOff the DEP; enabling the DEP to allow IE and AVG to open.

However, when I posted to a previous forum, I was told to run a TFC (Temp File Cleaner) as one of the requirements for posting. Apparently, whatever it did, it freed up IE and the AVG interface, but some minor programs are still being blocked. I wish I could post a link to the forum to identify what I did in the process, but I think it is not allowed. But I am very sure it is NOT malware/viral related. I ran AVG, Malwarebytes, PC Healthpack, and some online virus scan tool.

Right now, the DEP settings in the Advanced Systems section is all greyed out and can't get it back working together. Also, I tried running the "scannow" in the CMD box, it would run to 40% completion and then would freeze up (I let it ran for 2 hours but it still remained at 40%). My computer would run extremely slow afterwards and I would need to restart it. I appreciate any help to fix this, I am completely stumped.
