Deleted user, cannot now delete files.

The old user had a virus which did not spread to any others on the computer. so i deleted it. However when i go to C:\users the folder 'James' still exists. When trying to get 'full control' permissions an error comes up for every folder under 'james'. The error is called
"Error Applying Security"
and states:
"An error occurred while applying security information to: C:users\James\****
access is denied"
Whether i press continue or cancel it appears that the changes have gone through. however i still dont have access to the folders.

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks richard for your help, but the problem still exists. I take ownership of the folder and then make the changes to the permissions and the there is still an error. I'v made another user and deleted to see if it would happen again and it does. There is an unkown user in both situations, is it maybe something to do with this???

What are the consquences of just ignoring it?

If you got the virus recently and you know for sure when you got it. You can go back with a system restore to before the virus and then you will be back to that point to do what you need to.
Worst case sceario, here, you get the virus back, if your date is wrong.

Had an idea, try this
TFC - Temp File Cleaner by OldTimer - Geeks to Go Forums

It safe and will not cause problems, but will cause inconvenience. You wil lose all your saved cookies. The consequnce of that is all saved passwords etc, will require that you log using the regular method again. In addition saved websites, may require you to sign in again. Like you tube for example.

Here is is this is the solution
You can access the files with this OS, without security problems

I had a similar problem of trying to delete protected files and I search and tried many suggestions from changing permissions to using dos commands such as takeown and rd, nothing worked. I then downloaded the free program "unlocker" and it was able to delete these folders with no problems. I suggest using this program.

My Computer

if vista will not let you delete a file or folder, try the free program unlocker. It worked for me and the program is small and easy to use. I had tried lots of other things within vista before using unlocker but none worked.
