Debugging Driver_Power_State_Failure BSOD

Hello,

I've had my HP Pavilion G60-230US laptop for a little over three years. In the last month I've run into this error several times while shutting down the computer. It will sit for several minutes on the shut down screen before giving me the "Driver_Power_State_Failure" blue screen error. I've tried analyzing the minidump file to find what I assume is the offending driver, but I figured that I'd just send it to the professionals. I've attached the file as requested, and do let me know if you need any other information. I'd appreciate any help that you can offer. I'm hoping to squeeze a little more time out of the computer. The Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit OS came pre-installed and is as old as the computer.

On a side note (if I may), there is one more issue that I've been trying to fix and maybe I can get a few tips on this as well. Recently, whenever I've tried to install some programs downloaded through Internet Explorer 8 (like iTunes updates and the Windows debugger) I get an error saying that the executable file "is not a valid win32 application." But perhaps I should post this on a different board?

Thanks,

DK

Thanks for the tip. I ran the scan and found four drivers for two programs (SuperAntiSpyware and a VPN client) that were unsigned. But I've had them on my computer for awhile without noticing any issues, so I can't imagine it's them.

Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

Thank you for uploading those files. They pretty conclusively point to RTSTOR.STS, as the cause of your troubles, which is the driver for Realtek High-Speed USB Media Card Reader. You are using a very old 2009 copy of the driver, and there is a new version dating from either 2011 or 2012.

The first thing you need to do is update this driver using the link I supplied to guide you here: Realtek

If you would like any more help getting an updated copy of this driver, please do not hesitate to ask.

I have a strong suspicion that updating this driver may be all you need to do to fix this machine, but please don't hesitate to ask questions or get more help or whatever.

Richard, thanks for your reply (and to everyone else who offered tips). I actually figured that this was the error the other day and updated the driver. But I'm glad to get some confirmation! I'll check your link to be sure that I have the right driver, but hopefully this should fix the problem.

That is excellent news!

I am extremely glad that your problems seems to be now fixed, but don't hesitate to return if it does rear its head again - but hopefully not :)

I wish you all the best,

Richard
