There's a significant difference in bandwidth with tri-channel memory. Go for it :)

so 6gb in tri mode would be better than 8gb in dual mode ???

I couldn't answer that definitively, so I found an interesting link for you..

Icrontic » What is tri channel memory?

I was also looking for a link benchmarking in Tom's Hardware, but can't find it.

It all depends upon what configuration your motherboard supports. For best performance, you need to ensure that each channel is populated, and that the population is balanced (i.e. use identical modules - these are available in dual and triple channel sets).

so from a performance side tri mode would be better then

Only if your motherboard supports it. You can usually tell by the number of memory slots - for tri-channel memory there will be 3 slots or a multiple of 3 slots. Which motherboard are we on about?

Note that the new II56 socket for core i5 and core i7 only supports dual channel at least for now due to the replacement of QPI to DMI memory controllers. As above, check your motherboard manual for the right slots, and buy it in a kit. Corsair is great for memory. If you use that socket then 4GB DDR3 dual channel is enough.

Tri if its core i7 socket 1366, socket 1156 dual. OCZ memory is also a good choice.
