Data Execution Prevention Problem

Hi guys,

I just installed PKR (the poker client) onto my vista laptop as i have done a few times in the past, but now the DEP seems to be kicking in and I cannot execute the program.

I have tried to add the exe file to the exempt list but DEP will not allow it.

I know turning DEP off is not the ideal solution and would prefer not to do that if I can get some help getting PKR past this.

This has never come up before so I am a little confused as to why this is happening now.

P.s My laptop is Vista Home Premium 32bit :D

I am running that site through some scanners now, and have come up on a long line of people waiting for their scan results. I just wanted to be sure i am running the one you have tried,, right off bat i am getting RED on the WOT rating, but, as that is just a Community rating, i like to dig deeper.

Thanks, i am 3915 on the list waiting for my scan.. sheesh.. the site is busy, i am using virustotal.com as my first free scanner, i have others that i use, give me some time and let me see what i get, The results may be why there is an issue, as i have a friend who does on-line poker and has no issues, but, i forget the site he uses. I will e-mail him tomorrow and see what site he uses.

Well, i am getting a " clean " off my scans, just some issues with WOT , people say good , some say they cheat , but, main issue i was concerned was virus/malware. I see no reason why you can not install this site . Let me see what i can find out. I will get back to you.

Just turn it off for that one program. While using that program make sure that you do not stray elsewhere. You will be ok

I said at the start i tried to put it on the exempt list on the DEP but it wont let me.

Just turn it off for that one program. While using that program make sure that you do not stray elsewhere. You will be ok

To turn off DEP for an individual program

Select the check box next to the program that you want to turn off DEP for, and then click OK.

If the program is not in the list, click Add. Browse to the Program Files folder, find the executable file for the program (it will have an .exe file extension), and then click Open.

Exempt list and turn on/off for a single program are different, are you saying you are unable to turn it off for that one program ?

We come from all over the world, your use of word " exempt " confused me. But, in that program that Rich left you, am i understanding you correctly that you were unable to do this ?

Hmmm, that one answer gave a way to turn it off for ALL programs using command prompt. Tough choice , but, you have to make one, how bad do you want to play poker. You could always use command prompt and turn dep back on for all programs , once you got done pokering. Just a thought

sorry, i ment exempt as in the progrmas DEP lets gives you permission to use.

I just dont understand why its doing this now,

I have installed and uninstalled this program many times before and this is the first time ive ever seen this DEP thing.

It will not let me add the program to the list
