Hi,

Bought new pc for xmas but my son is having an error come up when trying to run games. Seems to be quite a common one.
d3dx9_34.dll missing, try reinstalling application.
The tricky bit is that I am out of the country until the 15th Jan and therefore trying to help via phone and msgr.
After research it has led me to Directx 9.c needing to be installed. My son did this but then got a conflict error with the the DirectX 10 that comes with Vista. After more searching I believe it is a case of installing the single d3dx9_34.dll file.
My question is where do I extract and install it to. Have read it needs to go into Sys32 folder whilst others have said Syswow64 .
Can someone please advice and please try to keep it simple as I need to explain i to my 12yr old.

Running Vista Home premium 64 bit

there should be no conflict with Directx10 AFAIK
download this and it will update your system with the latest of the runtime files
and Directx 9 and 10 can be in the same (in vista anyways)

Yup, just install the DirectX runtimes and you'll be ok. DirectX 10 and previous are different so you still need the latest Dx9 runtimes on Vista. And that, won't overwrite Dx10 at all.

The web installer given will download all the files you need to be up-to-date.

Have installed the full version of Directx 9.c November issure but he still gets the same error message saying the file is missing and reinstall application.

Can the file be installed seperately if so where to on the system.

If you downloaded the redistributable package, reboot and reinstall it. If you still have issues, use the DirectX installer from the application that complains (usually a game).
