Crashing after update

Hello
I just updated my windows Vista and when I then tried starting my computer afterwards it went into repair-mode. I tried to repair the flaws, but apparently it couldn't fix it all. It still goes directly to an entirely black screen with only my cursor marker on it, when I was supposed to write my password. Can you please help me. I've already tried to start it in every safe-mode available? I installed it yesterday (15/11), as soon as i could.

Do you have a vista DVD/CD ?.
If you do you can carry out a repair install.

I can inform you that my Vista isn't able to repair itself from the disc, because i've updated the SP's.

Your Vista should still repair, regardless of service packs.
You may have to change the boot order in the Bios, so you boot from the DVD/CD first. (don't forget to change it back after),

We've already tried that, and it still says it can't repair, because it's a different version

Try using a command prompt to repair the file system.



Use the bottom option, command prompt.

I don't really understand. I've tried opening the Command Prompt and written chkdsk /f, but it then says: The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.
Cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected.

Okay i've tried running the Startup Repair once again and it now said:

Root cause found:
--------------------
No OS files found on disk.

repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
Time taken = 2543 ms

Steps three and four may help. (different repair options).
If not, then it's looking like a re-install.

Hello Anders, and welcome to Vista Forums.

You can try a System Restore at boot using a restore point dated before this problem to try and fix it. If it cannot, then I'm afraid that it looks like you will need to reinstall Vista.

AHK, Can you tell us WHICH update caused the problem? Go to Start, Control Panel, Windows Update, View Update History.

And by the way, have you tried the "Troubleshooting Problems with Updates" link on that page?

I had this problem before 4 months!! I reinstalled Vista..............
