Hi Rich,
Will have to be brief. Computer bluescreens after startup. Virus Scans reveal nothing. I have to hurry as I don't know how long this will keep running.

Hi Rich,
Sorry about that....I really should know that by now :o System as follows Vista Home Premium SP2 X64 OEM version. I purchased 2008 and installed myself when computer was built December 2008. All updates on board. I really don't know whether it is hardware or software related because I cannot read minidumps. This is a new problem that started today. I do have a backup machine and if this quits before we finish I'll use that to get back to the site.
thanks,
Jakeman97

Replace only Asacpi, at first. If the problem continues you can take the driver verifier test to determine which driver is actually causing the problem.

You have given me quite a few reports. They are not all the same, but BC 50 kept appearing which makes that a good place to start.

If overclocking restore normal settings
SFC /scannow
System Files - SFC Command
Download memtest86 and test RAM
RAM - Test with Memtest86+ - Windows 7 Forums
Update outdated listed drivers. If I have inadvertently listed any Microsoft Drivers, they can be ignored.
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Asacpi.sys is a driver from the Austek Computer Corp. Your driver is very old and is known to cause BSOD's in current Windows versions; it must be updated
Uninstall your current Anti Virus and replace with Microsoft Security Essentials.
www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/
Test your hard drive at the manufacturers website.
Scan with your Anti Virus
Test Hard Drive HD Diagnostic
Suggestions in bold require priority.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper
www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

After performing all of the above, post back with any new BSOD reports, or indicate that the attempted repairs were successful.
If any links do not work, if clicked, please copy and paste to browser address bar.
These reports are not definitive but merely point the way to a solution. It is very important to remember that the dump reports only give clues as to the problem.

It looks like a lot, but really is not. Do one thing and test, then do another and test. Once you are up and working you can slowly do the rest of the steps. This will help prevent future BSOD.s

Hi Rich,
Looks like this dog has more problems than I thought. First off.... No new ASUS Driver for this motherboard an M3A78-T. Then Windows will not allow me to run SFC /scannow the Protection thing kicks in and it stops. What would you do if it were yours?

First
I find it hard to believe that a 2006 driver is the most current. That was for XP
Second,
try in safe mode.

Hi Rich,
I'm back....tests done. ASUS driver found and updated. Microsoft Security_Essentials found two virus and repaired them. #1 Trojan Downloader: Java/Open Connection #2 Exploit:Java/CVE-2008-5353.QV. I'm totally surprised that my AV ESET Nod 32 (paid subscription) did not find these and likewise Malwarebytes (Free) Once this was done, SFC/scannow ran x2 and nothing found. Sea Tools revealed a harddrive that needs to be replaced many errors. (it's 2 years old and used everyday). Memtest ran 6 passes and no memory errors. Looks like all will be well when I replace the HD. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Rich,
Hahahahahaha....easy for you to say. Believe it or not I'm getting an RMA on the drive. I'm wondering at this point should I just keep the Microsoft_Essentials instead of the ESET Nod32 even though it's a paid subsciption. I think it should have acted on the Trojan...but in all fairness that damn Trojan stopped my ESET from doing a full scan...BSOD half way through. Same with Malwarebytes...it too got disabled and BSOD'd too. If it were not for MS Essentials I never would have gotten the V Scan done. What do you think?

P.S.
Tried to boost your rating but I got the 'spread it around message' sorry. You really did solve this one.

If it were me, Iwould keep MSE, its free, does what it is suppose to and causes no problems. I have MSE, Malwarebyes and the Windows Firewall. Have no problems at all.

Im glad that it got sorted. Dont feel bad about the rep, the real reward is being able to help. Im sure our paths will cross again, anyway. Take care and enjoy.
