i have been up and running Vista 64x Home Premium for over a year now and the errors just seem to be piling up now. I use to have complete random IRQ errors and then replaced the memory and reformatted, however, now I am constantly receiving BSOD 124. Occasionaly the check codes after the crash code do change. I will admit I overclocked my processor from 2.93 to 3.3 without any problems and same for memory 800 to 920, but have since went to original settings to help solve this problem. I will say I have what seem to be (2) dreaded pieces of harware: GeForce 8800 Ultra 768mb PCI-e card and a Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum. I would also like to mention that these have never seemed to be a problem until about October of last year when I started to get the BSOD 124.

The errors are so intermittened its unbelievable. A few time I had the crash within minutes of loading any game/video (games BSOD 10x faster than any video.) and then yesterday I ran World Of Warcraft in 1920x1080i with all filters/bells/whistles for over 11 hours without a single hickup. I then left my computer on overnight and BAM BSOD 124. (Torrent upload at night).

In all honesty I would love to get rid of the problem without buying a new graphics card. however, if that will rid the problem I think 500$ over me putting my head into a meat grinder might turn out to be a better investment.

Now on to what I have tried to remedy the problem. I have used (2) driver cleaner programs to remove all of Nvidia and Creative drivers in safe mode and then rebooted and installed the newest from themanufacturers - This staved off the problem longer than anything.

I have reformatted and this has also staved off the error for a little longer.

I have replaced my memory and adjusted all overclocking back to manufacturer specs (not overclocked).

I have moved my graphic card into another slot as well as my sound card - this helped along with the memory IMO to completely remove any IRQ not less than or equal to errors which were not prevalent but happen maybe once a month.

I have my bios updated to the newest revision. I also have PCI spread spectrum off as well as C1E for processor.

My power supply is 820w and know it is not underpowing any rails or drives.

I am just at a complete loss on what the heck to do. I have sent the detailed errors to windows onyl to have them say bad cpu, memory, bios, hardware.

I am wondering about completely uninstalling and cleaning my creative drivers and once again running the computer for a few days to see if the BSOD emerges again. I dont know where my dump files are if anyone asks so please point me in the right direction.

Other than all the above mentioned, I am at a loss on what to do next... Please help the best you can.

My Computer

Use diagnostics, and post them here I will look at them (please include system specs)
Just because you have a 820w psu, doesnt mean it is not faulty (may have went bad). A faulty psu can damage both the motherboard and gpu.

Further note- There was an issue about a year ago regarding defective dies on the G84/G86/G92/G94 cards -including the 8800 Geforce cards (most of the 8 and 9-series cards available at the time- notebook and desktop cards were affected-though the issue was less likely to manifest itself in the desktop cards-unless they were overclocked and got really hot)

Have you?
updated your GPU drivers (some of the nVidia drivers are buggy)
Checked your PSU voltage? (if you dont have a multi-meter/volt meter, use Speedfan and PC Wizard)
When you reformatted did you re-install Vista fresh or from a recently created image?
Been using a Registry cleaner
Been using a good Antimalware Program (antivirus)
Been using UAC

Noticed any of these?
Computer just shuts off
Tearing, Vertical lines, Artifacts on screen
Multiple hardware seems to not work at same time
Cards/ports not working
beeps at boot
Errors at post
(if equiped), diagnostic lights not all green
Corruption, Windows/Programs crashing- not working right
Strange pop-ups/Internet redirects
Trojans detected from Torrent D/L

do i need to install both speedfan and the other utility or 1 or the other?
I have my voltages from bios if that would help too

again both gpu/sound drivers are from vista update not direct

You need to download the GPU driver from nVidia (or system OEM)

Does the dump spell anything out or help at all?

My Computer

Apparently a BCCode: error is caused by a bad/incompatible driver from what I can gather.

What I need is the diagnostics- the BCCODE:124 dump data string you posted is not enough info, Without the Diagnostic files this issue cannot be resolved.

One thing i would like to add i installed the new 2/19/09 nvidia drivers and windows update added that there were new ones from dec 18th.... for my card... I installed directly from their setup.exe rather than update driver through properties in device manager.

the disabled device you see in the manager is a creative game port. I have platinum card without the u/i rack cable installed and therefor no need to load the driver. to be frank the packaged drivers from creative dont install the device either.

Summary
-According to the diagnostic there appears to be no software issues or hardware issues other than poor performance of your GeForce 8800 Ultra 768mb (which can be attributed to a bad GPU driver/failing card), and the disabled PCI input device.
The poor performance of the GPU in processor intensive use can result in crashing and BSOD's. This GPU should have a WEI score of 5.5-5.9
I would update the x64 driver pacakage, and Check the WEI score. Benchmark/stress test it with 3dmark06. If the card is bad (due to defective die and excessive heat, or caused by the overclocking), you may want to consider replacing it.

Here are the newest x64 drivers for your card from nVidia (v.182.06 released 2/18/09):http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_182.06_whql.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The defective nVidia chips real issue is a weak die/packaging material set, which may fail with GPU temperature fluctuations.

note-the die defects associated with the G84/G86/G92/G94 cards have now been fixed- If you are in possession of one of the following 8-series/9-series cards, and It starts to fail, you may see intermittent symptoms during early stages of failure that include:
  • Multiple images
  • Random characters on the screen
  • Lines on the screen
  • No video
dated 8/30 2008 regarding 8800/9800 (G92)affected desktop cards-
posted from:http://www.tech-forums.net/pc/f62/n...-may-also-suffer-weak-packaging-issue-183937/

Nvidia Corp. has reportedly issued yet another product change notification (PCN) document, informing its customers that it plans to change bump material on its code-named G92 chips, which power a great amount of GeForce graphics cards. Potentially, this may mean that those graphics processing units are also subject to failures similar to already confirmed by Nvidia. . .
Nvidia’s product change notification released in late June reads that the company intends to change high-Pb bump material to eutectic solder on its G92 graphics chips as well as graphics boards based on the G92. The aforementioned graphics processor powers loads of GeForce 8800-series as well as GeForce 9800-series graphics boards, which are very popular among gamers and computer enthusiasts. It is interesting to note that both 65nm as well as 55nm versions of G92b are affected.

The reasons that Nvidia reportedly gives for switch of soldering material are claimed to be “to increase supply and enhance package robustness”. This is the second PCN regarding the change of packaging material that leaked this week.

Earlier this year Nvidia admitted that its GeForce graphics processing units (GPUs) and nForce chipsets (which the company calls MCPs, media and communication processors) designed for mobile computers could fail due to issues with high-lead packaging. The company took $196 million charge to help its partners to tackle the problem, however, it said that the issue only affected certain notebook configurations.

Based on the two PCNs that were made public, Nvidia’s desktop graphics processors may also suffer from the same issues as mobile graphics chips. If Nvidia is forced to change them, the company will have to take a very considerable charge.

Nvidia did not comment on the news-story

Wow, this sounds exactly what happened when I bought a 6800 OC card from BFG. What brand is yours ?

everything worked for about 6 months, then bam , errors randomly.

I seriously would call the vendor and RMA the card, the errors your having are EXACTLY what happened to me, I was going out of my mind, Most of the Nvidia cards have at least a 3 year warranty and the BFG ones are lifetime as well as the evga cards.

One of the biggest clues is the artifacting, I had a video card from a manufacturer run for 3 months and then a memory chip fell off of the card, the machine would boot no problem but when you got into any hard core video work the machine would artifact or randomly bluescreen. No one ever checks for memory chips falling off the card, trust me.

Thats one thing I always look up is the warranty on video cards, they fail so often its worth the extra 20 bucks per card for a good warranty.

Oh and as a quick note, make sure you have your RMA cross shipped, that way they send you a card, and you get the card in about 3 days, you put your old card in the box and ship it back, otherwise your going to end up waiting like 3 weeks for a card.

post back if this works , :)

Strange because it is so random and i never have video problems eg tearing random chars., etc. I ran the WEI and got a score of 5.9 the previous score of 1.0 was because i never loaded drivers when windows was freshly installed.

I have stressed tested the video at 1920x1080 and full settings for over 11 hours and didn't have a problem. the strange thing is it has only happen 1x on my fresh install before the most current nvidia drivers on Feb 18th as you posted. It happen to occur after about 1hour of stress testing yet again.

I am wondering if anyone knows what the warranty maybe on the 8800 768mb ultras? I bought this one 1 1/2 years ago and am hoping since i never registered it that i may be able to fondle the purchase date into proper warranty...

Last question, i was told by a few to get the RivaTuner program to bump the fan control of the card to 100% duty cycle currently is Q controlled at 60% regardless of temp... I am told that would help out quite a bit. Is this true and if so is there a better program of LITE version that would do the same. I had to have RivaTuner run at startup in order to reporgram the card back to 100% fan speed
