concerning 64bit IE and 32bit flash

Hi,

When I use the 64-bit IE it periodically asks if it can install flash. I go to do it and the adobe says they don't have flash compatible with 64-bit IE.

Has anyone found a way around this ?

I really want to use IE64 with a flash player. Adobe can't be the only game in town...i found an alternate pdf viewer called FoxitReader.

Thanks

Hello Kem,

Sorry, but there is not a 64-bit browser add-on for Adobe Flash Player yet. There's still only one available for the 32-bit browser in either the 32-bit or 64-bit Vista. There is no other option or workaround for this. :(

In addition to what Brink said, if you want to avoid the headaches altogether I would suggest you use the 32-bit version of IE by creating a shortcut on your desktop or wherever.

You can find the 32-bit exe file at C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer

Good luck

Flash is not for pdf!
For viewing pdf documents in your browser you would use Acrobat Reader. This one works with 64bit Windows.

Flash Player is for swf files (Animations).
Unfortionally there is only a player for 64bit Linux but a Windows Version is coming .

This is what they say on Adobe Labs:
Will prerelease versions of the Windows and Mac 64-bit players be available on Adobe Labs?Yes, we remain committed to bringing native 64-bit Flash Player to Windows and Mac in future prereleases.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for responding.

You're right schiffsratte; I was saying that instead of using "Adobe Acrobat reader", that I found a far less resource intensive alternative called "Foxit Reader" implying that Adobe is not the only solution we have.

I thought, maybe in this massive collection of vista minds someone may have found an alternative to adobe flash.

Thanks for posting schiffsratte. Welcome!

I think I read somewhere today...I think it was on the start64 website...yeah I just looked,
"Adobe has yet to release a 64 bit version of their Flash Player, and the 32 bit version cannot be used in conjunction with a 64 bit browser under Windows 7 / Vista 64. Adobe have only committed to releasing a 64 bit version of the player at some point after the release of Flash Player version 10."

I was ticked at Adobe until I read this.

Hello Kem,
I can't think of any alternative to the flash-player at all.
There are a few programs to create Flash content without Adobe Flash, like Swish or even compilers for Actionscript3 but I've never seen that they bring a player with them (or even if they are 64bit).
And as all Windows 64bit are multilib the situation is different from Linux where are true 64bit Versions, without the possibility to use a 32bit Browser.
So less pressure for Adobe to hurry with the release.
But honestly, I don't see a big difference on Windows between 32 and 64 Browsers on Win in terms of speed, do you ?
So the only way to have a "64bit flash-enabled" Browser would be to use a Linux in a virtualisation Software on Windows.
But even if they are really fast today, you would surely loose the speed you've gained with a 64 browser for virtualisation.
So I don't see any other solution as to wait :)

Hey schiffsratte,

I think I'm kicking a dead horse. Temporary insanity... I'll stick with FF.
