Just wondered where it all started for everyone and when

various consoles strting with the old pong type back in 1977 then.......

i got a Sinclair ZX81 with a 16k ram pack (all that memory!) around 1987 then............
Sinclair Spectrum
Spectrum 128k (it had a built in tape player and 128k of ram!!)
Commodore 64
Commodore Amiga (fantastic piece of kit)

Lost in console land starting with the Megadrive the playstation 1 then PS2

got back into pc's in a serious way in 2000 when i bought one from the dreaded PC World (how was i to know i knew nothing of pc's ;) )

then i built my first PC in 2001 and never looked back

My first PC was a Pentium 4 2.4Ghz with an Nvidia 32Mb graphics card with 256mb of ram and a 40gb harddrive, I built it from scratch when I was 12, using nothing more than the motherboard manual, took me 12 hours to do, but when your building something you have never built before and you spent $1500 (AUD) you dont want to screw it up. installed XP from my stolen XP cd (my poor uncle) and never experienced a problem until my older sister got ahold of it 2 years ago. I couldnt be bothered fixing it, so I made my next computer, the one I have now.

My first experience with even seeing a computer was in the 70's when my Mother ran a "terminal" to keep up with their yarn inventory for a huge carpet mill. In the early 90's I had a web t.v. We all thought that was really something! I have had several computers since then I now have a Gateway 8GB/640 mb. What an amazing difference!

After all the usual consoles, (cant remember the name of the first one, but it struggled to play pong), i first saw a PC game called Kingpin and was hooked, WOW!! on-line was great, you had to wait ages for a spot to come free just to get on a server. Playing another human and not AI, brilliant. Ah, 56k Dial up, those were the days too, lol.

1. A square box with a very small cartridge. About 1976ish. I think it was called a Grandstand games console, one racing game had cars like squished frogs.
2. The first Spectrum was a Sinclair Spectrum.
3. Then the ZX Spectrum.
4. Then the Sega Megadrive.
5. Then the NES.
6. Then the SNES.
7. Then the Nintendo 64, (GoldenEye, what a game), PS1, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360.
8. And of course, in the middle of all this, the PC. It was a monster, two and a half gig HDD lol.

By the way archie123, great idea for a thread. Happy days eh ?. Theres nothing like a walk down memory lane.

Well the first PC I ever touched was in 1998 when we bought one for the kids to help with schoolwork, they did computers in school.

That was a Windows 98 machine with a 2.1GB HD and 32 MB RAM with an inbuilt modem for dial up, that was fun so was me having to re-install the OS twice in the first 6 months because the people who delivered and set it up didn't leave the right CD's plus the modem burnt out so had to be replaced. Don't forget I'd never touched a computer before this

Next came a WinME machine and after XP came out one of my MVP friends gave me a retail copy which I installed and dual booted that for a while. We got an eMachine that came with XP Home which my husband used then I got an HP with XP installed but I installed my copy of XP onto that and gave the WinME machine to my daughter to use, I had removed XP from it first ;)

It's only in the last couple of months that the WinME machine has been taken out of the network and retired plus the eMachine went belly up so my husband had my XP and I got a new one with Vista installed which come October will be dual booting with Windows 7 ;)

My first computer was the TI 99/4A back in 84. Had a whole 16K of memory and speech was an aditional box.

Had a couple of consoles.

The amiga 1200 which I bought a scsi port for. I then got a second HD and a CD reader to work with it. Upgraded the memory and cpu with add on`s.

The first PC i got was around ten years ago. I am on my 5th build now (I think).
i got a laptop about 4 years ago as a second computer and backup machine in case anything went bang at the wrong time.

Of course, those weren't the first computers I used.

The first time I used a computer was via phone line, with a TI Silent Writer 7000. Just a keyboard and a thermal printer. No screen. Along with a 300 baud acoustical modem. Ran calculus programs on a computer about 75 miles away on a university campus. We were on a community college campus. The US government paid for the telephone time and half the CPU time. The year, 1976. I also had a TI SR-53 programmable caluclator at that time. 125 program steps of BASIC. Could read and write small magnetic cards.
