Hi
I have just put a new ide dvd-rewriter into my computer and my computer doesn't recognize the new dvd drive or an existing cd drive. I cant see them in 'My Computer' or the 'device manager'.
I don't no if this has anything to do with it but at the same time I also installed a new TV tuner into the computer and now I cant run the CD to fully install it.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks
Hi sooty, seems like the cd drive is not getting detected by the computer| Reseat the ide cables from both the ends and then reseat the CMOS battery. Let us know if it works.
Open your computer and look for a small round silver color battery. Take it out and put it back in. It looks like this:
P.S.: Turn off your computer and unplug the power cable before doing it.
I took the CMOS battery out and replaced it and I also took the ide cables out and replaced them but the computer still wont detect the drives
Do you think I should take out the new DVD-R drive and see if the old CD drive works?
Yes please try that. Also, try connecting the new DVD drive to the primary port(where the hard drive is currently connected). Then see if the hard drive detects on the secondary port(where you are now connecting the dvd drive).
Basically, try swapping the Hard drive and dvd drive ports and/or cables.
So it shows that the cd drive works on that port where its currently connected,
Now try connecting the DVD drive on that working port(where you have currently connected your cd drive).
Ive just put the DVD drive into the port which the CD drive was in before but the DVD drive still doesn't get recognized. I also put the CD drive back into the port which the DVD drive was in before and that did work.
Do you think the DVD drive is faulty since it doesn't work in any of the ports?
Yes sooty, according to the diagnostics we have performed, it shows that the DVD drive itself is not working. I'd rather recommend that you return this DVD Drive and go for a SATA DVD drive(I guess WinFast 6150M2MA motherboard also has SATA ports).
