I have a Toshiba Satellite A215 laptop with FUJITSU MHY2250BH ATA device disc drive.
When I go to 'My computer' the drive is there, as soon as I enter a game or a cd of any kind into the drive there is no auto play and the disc drive disappears completely from 'My Computer' I went to device manager and it is there, said its working properly. I tried to update drivers and it all up to date. This problem just happened over night.

Id like to explore a few other options before I attempt a system restore.

I would check your AutoPlay settings. Also see if perhaps the option to "not show empty drives" got enabled. When you say "system restore" you mean use a restore point? To me that's not all that drastic. Now if you are using the restore CD to hose your system that's another matter.

If all your settings are set then chances are it's something in the registry that's hosed. You might try also using ERUNT since it's less drastic than running a restore point(for future reference. Granted it's not going to help you today.)

Thanks for the help. I figured it out tho. I found out my cousin had dropped my laptop and didn't tell me, knocked the dvd drive loose. haha. Its always something simple like that. Appreciate the help tho guys.
