Comodo to release AV with 64bit support

Been visiting the comodo forums after i installed their excellent firewall that is also 64 bit. Aparently they are developing newer antivirus software to replace their current thats nearing release (next month or so should see first open beta of version 3), & guess what, its also going to be free & 64 bit. If its anything like their firewall, im never paying for av again.

Yah, they've been working hard on an AV product to complement their firewall, I've been working with them for the last year and beta tested the V3 Firewall up to it's release.

Melih, (Comodo's CEO) is passionate that every user should have the Best security products and they should be Free, he's quite the dude...
I worked in the AV Industry (on the side) as an Independent tester for over 8 years and I know what I want from a product and who's product has the best detection, heuristics, and history. I use Comodo Firewall V3 and Eset Nod32 V3.0.650.0.
Comodo's firewall is one of the top 2 Windows firewalls and it's Free (w00t!!), but Eset's excellent history and industry leading heuristics makes them the top AV pick of almost every security expert (true experts, not "Forum" experts) I've ever known, well, even some "Forum" experts choose Eset as well...

I can only hope that the Comodo engineers can build an AV engine to rival their firewall's capabilities, that certainly would be a powerful 1-2 punch.

seeing as the team at comodo is more passionate about keeping our pc safe, not rushing to get an AV out to make lots of money, i can bet that their av will be as good as their firewall (ie the best).

Another note, they plan to release their av, firewall etc into one big security suite called CIS! Hopefully by the ned of june (non beta)

We can only hope that their AV will be as good as their firewall is someday, but around 100% of the time when some company issues a new AV product, it's not all that great. It's not easy to do everything right on the first go-round, especially with something that complex and it'll be hard to overtake Eset's long standing "King-O-th-Hill" product.
I've talked with Melih about this since he knows my history in the AV field, and he's told me that they know they're not going to be a top ranked AV product out of the gate, but they're commited to it and intend to make it better with every version. I would personally wait for the product to get out and see what the top test labs have to say about it first

Thanks! There's a lot of competition though and it will take a lot to make me switch from Avast.

I like the idea - but if they continue to bundle their apps with the Ask toolbar, I am skeptical if I will ever use their products anymore.

That's sometimes the price you pay for free software. Opera did it for years. Fortunately you can unselect it at install and it still works.

If it were a harmless toolbar like Yahoo / Google, I'd be mildly irked - and uncheck it.

My issue here is the same as Donna's - why would a *security conscious* developer like Melih include a proven rogue toolbar developed and distributed by a known malicious company?

Don't get me wrong - CFP is still a *great* product - however, I get uneasy when I see security developers getting in bed with malware purveyors.

I'd have to agree with you but nothing in life is free. Fortunately you can uncheck it and the software still works. It's not like some stuff I've used in the past where the software will not install if you don't select to install the toolbars.
