Codec problem with Virtualdub

I am trying to load a dummy avi from which I created from a vob using dgindex and VFAPICodecV105en. But it won't load because I get an error message saying "Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'vifp' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow Codecs, such as the ones used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable." I've tried every codec that I can think of and it just doesn't work at all. I know that VFAPICodecV105en needed to have it's dll files placed into system32 by running the vifpset.bat file. I was able to do that but I just can't seem to correct that error.

Have you tried copying the dll to VirtualDub's folder. Also if you right click on the bat file and go into edit you can see what the dll is named.

Going into edit I get this rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection vifp.inf,DefaultInstall. I copied the dll into Vdub's main folder and Plugins folder and I still get the same problem.

Well Simonc55, I did try that codec you mentioned and it didn't work. And I believe that that codec should be installed with the 32 pack first before installing the 64 version. But anyhow it didn't work. As far a pooch's suggestion I am still looking into it but I don't think I'll have any luck with that. I tried installing wmp6cdcs.exe, wmpcdcs8.exe and wmv9VCMsetup.exe with no luck so far. Now what I am trying do is to uninstall all codecs I have and see if with a process of elimination if I can solve this problem. I did just install K-lite and it showed some problems as it installed such as the following which was a common error message with ddp and ec3 (I don't know what they are but there you go)

And when I uninstalled K-Lite I got the following.
In short I think my main problem is some kind of registry problem but I don't want to mess with that. Ever since I installed Vista back in june I have been having trouble installing 32 bit programs, not all but some. For instance I installed one program that kept saying how many dll and ocx files couldn't be found. And little details of it weren't working as well, so I uninstalled and decided to reinstall it. When that happened certain settngs that I had made in the previous install were still there despite the fact that had uninstalled and deleted the folders several times. According to the creator of said program, I may have a problem with shortcuts. I think he may be correct with that but again that is a regisrty problem. I have used in the past short cut cleaners but no help there. Lastly I am going to use CCleaner and see if that helps.
