CHKDSK error and log in issues

Hello, this is my first post here and I will try my best to describe my issue! Right now, I'm not sure my computer can be recovered at all.

I run Vista Home edition 32bit, on a computer that is less than 2 years old and the hard drive is a terrabyte in size (I know this isn't specific, but it's a gaming computer so the specs should be good). I had been having issues with it, and the hard drive was recently replaced, and it was running just fine.

Yesterday morning when I turned it on, it went through it's start up as normal, and was fine for a few minutes then froze. I rebooted, and it said that Windows was loading, but then it went to a DOS screen saying there was a CHKDSK issue and it would repair it. It went through that process saying "Inserting an index entry with id *xxnumbersxx* into index $SII of file 9". It did this, running through thousands of numbers, saying at the end 123200 security descriptors processed. I just left it alone, and it eventually went to the user log-in screen, which I have never had to do before in my life, and when I click on my user name it automatically says it cannot be verified and its shutting down. I would turn my computer on again, it would get to the Windows Loading screen, then stop, show a blue screen for a split second then reboot itself, and would keep doing this again and again, so I cannot even get into my own computer.

I'm now trying to boot from my system disk, have selected for it to do a start up repair, and am waiting for the results from that. I hope it helps, but I'm really worried.

What I'm basically wondering here, is if anyone has encountered or knows about what I have described here, and can perhaps give me some guidance in fixing it, or just tell me if it's a lost cause. I'm no computer wiz, but I will try anything I can. But at the moment, I can't even get into my computer! I have had the free Avast, Spybot, and another internet protection program running and none of them picked up on any issues.

I hope I haven't been too vague in describing my issue. Thanks for any suggestions!

If you cant get up and running try to boot in safe mode (f8 quickly and rapdily during boot). Try to get into system restore from there, possibly fixing the damage.

Hi, I ran a memory test and a start up test using the system disc and neither of them showed a problem. I just tried to start it in Safe mode, but it's not loading the desktop.

It didn't register there was a problem, it just restarted the computer, loaded up to the point where the desktop should have been, but just had a black screen and didn't progress from there. Same thing with a memory check. Really odd!

What happened with the starup repair?

. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc into the disc drive, and then start the computer.

2. Press a key when the message indicating "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD …". appears.

3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next.

4. Click Repair your computer.

5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next

6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore.

7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction as usual and choose the appropriate restore point.

8. Click Finish to restore the system.

Did Adelita ever report back to confirm a solution? I'm currently in the "Cleaning up xxxxx" process, after it finally paused at "Inserting an index entry with Id 35015 into index $sII of file 9." Then here are some of the other things it said (possibly incomplete or out of order since it was so quick): "Cleaning up 26719 unused index entries from index $sII" "Fixing mirror copy of the security descriptors data..." "Repairing the security file record segment" "479296 security descriptors processed." It then attempted to restart but only displayed a flashing top left curser.

Powering off and back on the HP DV8000 laptop just shows the logo. F8 (or any key) results in continued blank screen with curser and loud BEEP. F10 gets me to the hardware setup screen. Esc gives me a boot menu.

Guess I'll search for the Vista 32 CD and try the instructions above. Would appreciate any other advice. Thanks!
