CD-RW not loading

Hi I am New to this forum,
my problem is my LGH20n ata ver 1.01 dvd rw drive, will not recognise any brand of CD-RW, it used to have no problem with these dics, it recognises every other type of disc. When I insert a cd-rw, i can hear the the laser clicking but there is no speed up, and when I go to the dvd drive icon and click it, a message no disc inserted and ejects the cd-rw. I have a lot of files on my cd-rw's that I want to keep.
I have tried un-installing the drive, and then re-installing on re-start.
I do not know how long ago this happened, but I did install IE9 the other day, and did not like it so I went back to IE8.
Thanks.

Thank-you for your reply, and Yes it states the driver is working correctly, and that there are no up-dates. Could it be that the driver is on it's way out and that this is the first sign.If I get a new driver LG, will it install ok?

I had already spoken to LG they say a firmware upgrade will make no difference, I wonder if a system restore in SAFE MODE, will be of any use, maybe it will restore something that could have been corrupted when I installed IE9 and rolled back to IE8, just a thought.

Try this one first:-
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
Sometimes works in these situations.
System Restore would work of course, rolled back to days ago.
if it has been corrupted by say virus, you would be rolling that back too?
So try the boot see if that works first.
If not :-

First, to assist in the elimination of possible virus and/or malware.
I would ask you to please use your Anti-virus full scan program facilities, making sure, you have updated the software first. Please advise us of the results.

If you do not have any anti-virus loaded please go to this link and download Microsoft Security Essentials :- Microsoft Security Essentials | Protect against viruses, spyware, and other malware

Secondly, please download:- malwarebytes Malwarebytes a Malware searching program, again, an updated full scan. Notify results please. Both these programs are Freeware
