CD-ROM Drives Bluescreen on startup/use/removal

When I use the CD drive, it would open and bluescreen the comp. This is a new issue, it only happened today. I restarted and then tried to update drivers(they were the newest and vista compatible drivers, and they have worked fine for months) to no avail. I then un-installed the drives and tried to reinstall them. Vista bluescreened right away not allowing me to re-install them. On every start-up try from then on, it would get to the welcome screen and then bluescreen right away. Safe mode is the same way, loads the drivers then blue screens. I had to remove the cd-roms to boot and then check for any soultions. If anyone has any input at all, please post away. Thanks.

Sounds like the ATAPI driver might experienced an issue during boot up or have been corrupted. Try running the Windows Vista recovery software on the Windows Vista DVD.

check this problem to see which DVD-Writer/ROM is causing the problem. This is rather quite odd.

Dosnt seem to matter, if I install any of them it does it. Im going to try a clean wipe and reinstall vista. ( if only vista installed with 4 gigs of ram in and didn't bluescreen with that too)

Just make sure that you're running a 64-bit version of Vista, 4GB should not be of a problem what-so-ever.

I am, it gives me a IRQ error, it dosnt seem to know how to assign the 4gb, so ive had to do the install with 2 everytime. Works fine with 2gb, just not 4.

I guess there must be a motherboard issue somewhere then if you have an IRQ error.

More info on IRQ at Wikipedia.
