CD Ejecting with CD inside

So, what my system is doing, is it's just ejecting the CD tray, without me telling it to. I put in a CD, the Autoplay window pops up, then, I hear my CD drive stop reading the disc, the window disappears, and out comes the CD drive. I'm using a laptop.

Never heard of this before...

It could be a faulty CD drive... My sister's laptop is pretty messed up, and to eject to CD drive you have to caress the top of the case just next to the Return key. Pushing the button on the drive does nothing. And to turn it on, you have to rub the bottom of the screen's frame... Bizarre.

Anyway, try putting in a CD as soon as you turn on your computer (use a music CD just to be safe). If anything comes up on the screen then just ignore it for now. If the drive gets ejected as usual, then it is most likely the drive's problem, not Windows (seeing as Windows isn't running:)).

Hello Kyogre1940,
Funny thing you should ask. Lately I have had a couple of XP Pro laptops do the same thing except there i no cd inside. Strange! It would only happen when I log into the laptop. haha:)

Ok, thanks guys. I tried putting in the CD while Windows was not running, and it didn't eject. I tried disabling the drive then re-enabling it, and it worked for 3-4 hours, then the whole problem arose again. I'm thinking, should I try and reinstall the whole CD drive?

You could try that. Also make sure the driver is up to date for the CD drive.
