Did you try searching HP's website:
Select software and drivers*
Does the drive show up in device manager? Does it show up in my computer?
If you said yes to any of these questions try this registry fix:
View attachment xpcd.reg then reboot your computer.
This works in Vista as well as XP

no it is not in the device manager and it is not in the swsetup in cdrive. also it is not listed in the site.please help me

Try my registry fix listed on my above post.
It does make missing drives reappear once executed. I've used it many times when I encountered a similar problem.
Click on it then try to reboot laptop then let me know if it helped you

hello bro....i tried that registry and it did not bring it back.the light in front of dvd blinks though.I was wondering if i could download and hp product dvd drivers if it would work?or do you think it might be hardware failure?
