After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.

its been a while since i had an ATI card but i assumed you always had to reinstall the control center when installing new drivers , also its a goot a idea to use driver cleaning software in safemode after uninstalling old drivers and before installing new ones

Tried that mate it still wont work although it is still showing in task manager. It happened with previous version (8.10 I think) but 8.11 was working ok? Tried re-installing just CCC but still no change.

O.K. guys. I had the same problem and spent like 12 hours trying to fix it with reinstalling, driver cleaning and stuff. Nothing worked. But!! i found the solution on one of the forums:
win2008workstation.com • View topic - ATI Catalyst Control Center cannot start
Mr. LVNeptune came up with a simple and smart way to deal with it:
"None of these solutions worked for me however I found one that did, after installing the full CCC w/ drivers and receiving the error I thought "hmm...why not uninstall from device manager then redetect" I did...restarted CCC using start->programs->ccc->restart runtime and it worked fine!"
So, your steps should be:
1. Install your ccc.(reboot if u have to)
2. Go to the Device Manager(easy way to find it-just type "device manager" in the Search bar)
3. Expand "Display adapters", -> right-click your graph card-> choose unistall and then confirm the removal of the driver.
4. You will be asked to reboot. Do it.
5. After reboot Vista will redetect and install driver. Let it do its job. You will be asked to reboot again. Do it.
6. After reboot -> It works!!! BUT! Some people had to do "restart runtime" to get CCC working again. (Start->Programms->Catalysis Control Center->Restart Runtime)

Another Ideal,
If yer desperate, is to install the 8.11 drivers over the 8.12. Don't ask why but I have read it works? Thought I'd put it out there for ya.........

I have installed new modified 8.12 drivers and CCC runs now. Must have been something with the standard 8.12 drivers I guess!!
