CAUTION RegistryFix V6.2

Good day all

This my my first post on this website, so please be kind . I'm kidding, of course, if I have posted in the wrong area, scold me appropriately .

I have been using a payware registry cleaner product called RegistryFix Version 6.2 for some time on three of my other computers without any issues.

I recently had a new machine built for me, and have just been through three very productive days installing MS Vista Home Premium 64-bit and several other programs. Just yesterday, since things were going so well, I skipped my normal procedure of backing things up at regular intervals.

Just after I has cleaned out all unnecessary files left over from the installations and done a defrag, I installed and started up RegistryFix. It "found" over 600 "errors" and I stupidly allowed it to continue "fixing" the problems without backing up at least my current registry. The program is supposed to make a backup as part of it's process, so I thought it unnecessary.

After it had completed, everything went south! I was unable to reboot to Vista, unable to restore to a former restore point --- you get the picture. Fortunately, I was able to activate System Restore from my Vista distribution CD and recover to a point a few days back.

I will do some research on RegistryFix and update this post if I find that for some reason it perhaps does not support Vista 64-bit systems.

the general concensus on here and my own opinion is that registry cleaners are of no earthly use anyway , they never solve any issues and alot of the time cause all sorts of hassle , stay away from them.

think of it this way , even if after 5 years you had 10,000 redundant entries in your registry do you think it would slow your pc down? the registry is tiny , searching through it takes milliseconds. There is no way any software could acurrately tell you what should and shouldnt be there anyway (as you have found out )

get yourself Auslogics registry defrag tool (its free) and leave the registry cleaning well alone

I second archie123's sentiments. Only thing is I haven't tried auslogics reg defrag. I use the disk defrag from them every day. From personal experience I can say NTREGOPT smooths out the bootup for awhile and I don't recall it ever hosing my system. It's free and has a companion ERUNT for saving vital parts of your registry. It can be easily set up to save the last 7 days registry settings and automatically delete the oldest.. like a rotating storage. I've been using it since NT 4.

Thanks for the info guys. I will try Auslogics.

By way of follow-up, I received an Email from the makers of RegistryFix stating that it is NOT COMPAIBLE WITH 64-bit OPERATING SYSTEMS.

This would explain the problems that I encountered.
