!!! Catalyst Software suite fails to install !!!

I cannot install any ATI driver on my Vista!!
after the installation exe begins, it goes into a detecting phase. Then it says "Fail to find any installable component";
and, the error msg is "Cannot detect any compatible ATI hardware" !!!

Workaround: Install the driver thru Vista's Device Manager. However, Catalyst control center doesn't install in this way.

Anyone got idea about this trouble?

Could you post some system specs? Also, as much as possible for your graphics card (PCI-E, PCI, AGP, size, type, etc).

Ok, Here's my rig:

Intel E6320, ATI X2600XT 256MB 128bit (PCI-E), Intel 965P Motherboard, VData 2GB DDR2 667 RAM, Mag 22" LCD.

I actually had this problem with my 2600 for awhile. Solution was to uninstall drivers, boot to Safe Mode with Networking, download the driver, install it there, and then reboot.

But, strangely, I've now got this little feeling that there's a reason you can't install it in Safe Mode. It's been too long since it happened.

Anyway, you could uninstall drivers in Device Manager in normal mode, and install the drivers over it. Sometimes that amounts to the same thing. Before you install, make sure you're in VGA mode, though. The last thing you want is Windows thinking you've got a different "generic" card than you actually do.

How can i make sure i'm under VGA mode?

PS. Installation under safe mode fails. "Unable to load detection driver". (Of course, no additional driver can be loaded under safe mode)

Yeah, that's what I thought I remembered about the safe mode thing.

If you're just in standard VGA mode with no drivers installed, you'll be running at 800 x 600 resolution with 16 bit color. If you normally use higher resolution with mroe colors, once you're there, you'll know it. The screen will look a lot like it did in Windows 3.1 (I hope I'm not dating myself there).

Really, all you should need to do to get there is uninstall drivers for the device while you're in Device Manager. If there are no drivers for the device, you'll be running off of a very generic VGA driver, which supports almost nothing. If you need detailed instructions for getting to Device Manager and uninstalling the driver, let me know.

Apparently the MacBook Pro runs Vista better than equivilent and more powerful laptops.. hahahaha
