hi everyone.... HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! :D

i think it is time to clear my computer out for the dust that has built up on one of my fans heat sinks and the case as well.

what would be the safest way to clean my case from the dust. i am planning to buy canned air from dick smiths but they are out of them...

do computer shops clean the motherboards? i have read that some people use leaf blowers or a compresses. i don't want to do that i have only had my computer for a year i don't want to stuff it up. if anyone has an ideas, would love to know:D

i actually use a hand air bed pump that way i don't have to worry about moisture, um they might do it but there is always the chance that they could mess it up

Would not take it to a computer shop, it costs a fortune- Best thing to do is use compressed air, in any form, canned is best. However I do own an air compressor and I have used it to clean out my computer every other month without any problems whatsoever. Leaf blowers, you risk getting chunks of leaf in your pc.

Main Machine. Just upgraded my RAM to 8GB. Next task will be to get a new processor for this machine ( 9650 was for my secondary machine )
I always used the canned air, although these days, it's gotten to be ridiculously expensive for a can. I started taking mine to work and using the air compressor. Just common sense though ,don't get extremely close to anything with high powered air. Works really good.

A small soft paintbrush is also handy for the board crud...
Make sure to take note of any jumpers and there locations.

I agree with one of the above posters comment about canned air getting expensive. But I think that it is a good investment to prevent problems with an even bigger investment. Make shift solutions such as leaf blowers etc are trouble just waiting to happen

I do it a few times per year, and just did it recently after being reminded by this thread actually. $5.99 for a 10oz can was the cheapest around here, but they had a 2 pack also, which was $9.99. So I got the pack. It'll last me the whole year almost I am guessing, so not a bad investment at all. Still quite a bit more expensive than it was say....5 years ago.
